Reviews:
Amazon.com customers gave the Philips Norelco 1250x/40 an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. 163 of the 254 reviews were 5 star ratings. Here’s what some had to say about the Philips Norelco 1250x/40:
PROS:
“Very easy to clean”
“The detachable head is extremely easy to clean and really does come out clean when you are done, no place for the hairs to hide so to speak.”
“I have had many electric razors in my 70+ years but I have never had one that is: 1. this quiet, 2. that cuts so close…that is to say ‘cuts’ … not ‘pulls’, 3. that is intuitively easy to use, 4. is easy to clean and charge and 5. that does all that it is advertised to do.”
“ This razor is, without question, the best electric razor I have ever owned. It replaced a relatively new Remington that sounded like a threshing machine and very carefully pulled out the whiskers one at a time.”
“Very quiet.”
“When I got the Norelco, I charged it up and the next day took it for its first test drive. WOW, what a pleasant surprise and experience. It was like the first time behind the wheel of a well crafted sorts car after spending a lifetime driving cheap sedans.”
“The unit is very comfortable in the hand, light and easy to maneuver. Most importantly, the shave is close, fast and remarkably smooth. With this Norelco, there isn’t the tugging and pulling that’s typical of the lower priced models (even when they are new).”
CONS:
“No corded shaving, must use charger stand”
“Replacement heads a bit pricey”
“Charging stand is easy to topple over”
“Expensive head replacement.”
“It’s a sealed unit & rechargeable batteries have a life span. One day the battery will die and you will either send it in for a new one or toss it and buy a new shaver. Most batteries like this last 2-3 years tops before they stop holding a charge. That’s my experience.”
‘The pop-out trimmer is actually less useful than the previous gens for me, it is also a bit smaller in size which I see as a disadvantage. The previous models pop-out trimmer actually flipped out and was a decent size. The 1250x trimmer slides out and seems smaller in width which makes trimming sideburns etc actually take longer. As a precision trimmer it works OK, but I much prefer the old trimmer size and pop-out method.”
“The only bad thing about it is that it is so tall in the charger that it doesn’t fit well on any of our shelves. It might help if the base had some weight in the bottom as it is easy to knock over.”
“The trimmer doesn’t work as well as past Norelco models I’ve owned, but all else is much superior.”
Overall
The majority of Amazon.com customers found the Philips Norelco 1250x/40 to be quiet, stylish looking, easy to use, and easy to clean; and almost everyone thought that the shaver performed as advertised, providing a close, comfortable shave, without pulling the hairs. Many reviewers also noted they were impressed with the ergonomic design.
The complaints referred to the price, the performance of the pop-up trimmer, the non-replaceable battery, the lightweight charging stand that could possibly tip over, and the price of the replacement heads.
While the price of the Norelco 1250x/40 is normally around $200, Amazon’s price is considerably less. And keep in mind there is a 2-year warranty included, making the price seem a little more reasonable for a well-performing product.
